Music Guide by Artyom Vargaftik
On 1 February 2014 at Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, the Moscow Philharmonic Society will present the first concert of its subscription series, “Music Guide by Artyom Vargaftik.” The evening’s theme is “England from the Pens of Classics.” On the program are works by Edward Elgar (“The Enigma Variations”) and Benjamin Britten (“The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra” and “Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes”). Marius Stravinsky (UK) will conduct.
This season will also see three more concerts in this series: on 22 March, “Austria: Two Great Imaginary Symphonies” (Beethoven, Schubert, Bruckner) with conductor Alexei Bogorad; on 19 April, “America Through the Eyes of Emigrants” (Mahler, Rachmaninov, Bartok, Stravinsky) with conductor Stanislav Kochanovsky; and on 17 May, “America: The View from Within” (Ives, Gershwin, Copland, Bernstein), with conductor Mikhail Agrest.
