"An Ordinary Miracle" Premiere!

A symphony orchestra version of “An Ordinary Miracle,” a musical by Gennady Gladkov, created by the composer himself, will be premiered on 8 January 2014, in the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, under the baton of the Artistic Director of the State Orchestra, Vladimir Jurowsky.

Written in 2007, the musical is based on the popular music for the eponymous TV film directed by Mark Zakharov (1978). In this new version, composer Gennady Gladkov and librettist Yuly Kim added many new numbers to the well-known songs from the film. “Certainly, the musical is written according to the laws of the genre,” says Gladkov, “the Russian brand of it, of course, not American... In the Russian musical, emotions and soul take precedence; it has to touch you, to make you concerned.”

The first staging of “An Ordinary Miracle” the musical was done in 2009 by the St. Petersburg Operetta Theater. Later on, the work had a good number of performances by various theater groups in Russia, Belarus, and the Ukraine. The full orchestral version, commissioned by Vladimir Jurowsky, was finished in 2013.

Says Vladimir Jurowsky, “It will be an unusual, for us, a symphony orchestra, performance. I am sure that the instrumental parts in the new version of the score are as intricately and precisely interlaced as in Gladkov’s other works, such as, for instance, ‘The Town Musicians of Bremen,’ which I consider an unsurpassed masterpiece in its genre.”
